SUMMARY:Classic Albums Live Performs Led Zeppelin II
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT \n\n\nFrom Craig Martin\, Founder and Music Director of Classic Albums Live: \nLed Zeppelin really do sound like the hammer of the gods… at first listen it’s the guitar riffs that grab you. Then the drums. Then the honey-sweet voice of Robert Plant. What’s funny is that after years of listening and dissecting the album\, it’s the bass guitar that I’m now drawn to. \nLed Zeppelin II has it all: drum solos\, guitar solos\, lemons! I get emails from people telling me that their kids were conceived to this record! Perhaps that’s the ultimate compliment you can pay to an album! Zep fans are unrelenting in their love for the band. Many people don’t realize that during the ‘70s no other band or artist came close to selling as many albums as Led Zeppelin. At the time the critics were panning them and making fun of them\, but the people spoke. They bought the albums and went to the concerts. The nerdy naysayers were left licking their wounds. \nLed Zeppelin were the people’s band\, and Led Zeppelin II was their call to arms. \nEvery rock musician who picks up an instrument gravitates toward Zep. Every musician says they can play Zep but most can’t. There’s an undefinable quality to their music. Once every couple of months\, I stay up all night and comb the internet for bands that can play Led Zeppelin better than CAL… I never find anyone that comes close. I have put together the greatest Led Zeppelin band in the world. I can’t believe my luck; I get to rock out with an audience of like-minded people. I can’t think of anything better than being in a beautiful communal setting and reveling in one of the greatest albums ever made. \n“Thanks to you I’m much obliged – for such a pleasant stay” \nNote: the San Diego Symphony Orchestra does not appear on this program. \n\n\nPRE-PAID PARKING \n\n\nAce Parking has provided a DEDICATED PARKING PURCHASE PAGE for this event.

SUMMARY:COUNTING CROWS
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT \n\n\nFor more than two decades\, the Grammy® and Academy Award-nominated rock band Counting Crows have enchanted listeners worldwide with their intensely soulful and intricate take on timeless rock & roll. Exploding onto the music scene in 1993 with their multi-platinum breakout album\, August and Everything After\, the band has gone on to release seven studio albums\, selling more than 20 million records worldwide\, and is revered as one of the world’s most pre-eminent live touring rock bands. \nIn October 1996\, the band’s double-platinum sophomore studio album\, Recovering the Satellites\, debuted at number one and further solidified their growing reputation as one of the leading American alternative rock bands in the world. A follow up to their early success\, Counting Crows went on to release This Desert Life (1999)\, Hard Candy (2002)\, Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings (2008)\, Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did on Our Summer Vacation) (2012)\, Echoes of the Outlaw Roadshow (2013) and Somewhere Under Wonderland (2014.) In 2004\, Counting Crows recorded the chart-topping “Accidently in Love” for the animated motion picture Shrek 2. The instant success of the track earned them an Academy Award nomination for “Best Original Song” at the 2005 Academy Awards\, a Golden Globe nomination for “Best Original Song” and a Grammy® Award nomination for “Best Song Written for a Motion Picture\, Television or Other Visual Media.” \nIn September 2014\, Counting Crows released their critically-acclaimed seventh studio album\, Somewhere Under Wonderland\, which debuted at No. 10 on the charts and was heralded by The Daily Telegraph as “… the best collection of songs since their debut.” The album consisted of nine sprawling tracks around rich sonic tapestries\, which yielded some of the most grandiose yet intimate songs Counting Crows had recorded to date. 2018 marked 25 years since the band’s inception and sent Adam Duritz\, Jim Bogios\, David Bryson\, Charlie Gillingham\, David Immergluck\, Millard Powers and Dan Vickrey back on the road for the “25 YEARS AND COUNTING” tour. In 2021\, Counting Crows ranked #8 on Billboards’ “Greatest of All Time: Adult Alternative Artists” 25th anniversary chart. \nAfter seven years\, Adam Duritz and Counting Crows released Butter Miracle: Suite One in May 2021 to rave reviews. SUMMARY:TASH SULTANA: North American Tour 2023
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT \n\n\nSince they broke through into the Australian music scene more than a decade ago\, Tash Sultana has been nothing less than a musical force. \nThe gender-fluid multi-instrumentalist\, producer\, singer-songwriter\, engineer and entrepreneur has carved out every step in their musical journey over the last 15 years\, which has taken them from performing open night mics all over the country\, busking the streets of Melbourne to releasing platinum records\, accumulating billions of streams\, gathering nominations from across the globe\, winning awards and selling hundreds of thousands of concert tickets worldwide. \nTheir debut album Flow State landed in 2018 and quickly became Gold certified\, and spawned Platinum and Gold records with singles “Mystik” and “Murder to the Mind.” Their acclaimed second record Terra Firma landed in 2021\, and garnered widespread praise for Tash’s raw and reflective songwriting and ambitious musical arrangements. Like everything before it\, the entirety of the record was carved by Tash – every instrument that was played\, every bit of musical arrangement\, every bit of production. \nPlease note: this is a Rady Shell Rental event presented by AEG Goldenvoice. SUMMARY:GIPSY KINGS featuring NICOLAS REYES with special guest Al Olender
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT \n\n\nNicolas Reyes has been the leader and co-founder of the Gipsy Kings for well over 30 years. In the past three decades\, they have dominated the World Music charts and sold more than 14 million albums worldwide. Their platinum compilation\, The Best of the Gipsy Kings\, was charting for over a year upon its release and their ninth studio album\, Savor Flamenco\, was awarded the Grammy® for Best World Music Album in 2013. \nThis iconic legacy began when Nicolas’ father\, Jose Reyes\, formed a celebrated flamenco duo with Manitas de Plata (which boasted fans as famed as Miles Davis and Pablo Picasso). When the pair parted ways\, the elder Reyes became even more popular upon starting his own band\, backed by his son\, called Los Reyes. In later years\, Nicolas headed out on his own and began playing in the town of Arles in the south of France. He traveled throughout the country\, busking on the streets of Saint-Tropez\, playing wherever he could. Having adopted the perpetual motion of the gypsy lifestyle\, his band eventually translated “Los Reyes” and became the Gipsy Kings. \nThe band’s music went on to fuse with popular culture. In addition to the accolades above\, the traveling Gipsy Kings have played some of the world’s greatest stages\, from the Hollywood Bowl to Royal Albert Hall as well as hitting the big screen. Their rendition of “Hotel California” was included in the film The Big Lebowski and the HBO series Entourage. The 2010 film Toy Story 3 featured a Gipsy Kings version of the movie’s popular\, Randy Newman-penned theme\, “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”. The Gipsy Kings recently featured in a Big Lebowski spinoff The Jesus Rolls with Reyes appearing in person with the director and star\, John Turturro\, for some of the promotion. \nAs active as this remarkable collective remains\, they are also confident in the future of their legacy. “Even though it’s been 30 years\, we want to keep on making new music because it’s our life. It’s who we are\,” says Nicolas Reyes. “But I think there will be a time when we pass down the Gipsy Kings to our sons”. \n30 years is an eternity in pop music\, but the story of the Gipsy Kings featuring Nicolas Reyes has the depth to endure. Theirs is a music that extends through generations\, to the sounds of their ancestors – Spanish Romani people who fled the Catalonia region during the Spanish Civil War &ndash ;and reflects the vibrantly eclectic and peripatetic history of the gitanos. \nNote: the San Diego Symphony Orchestra does not appear on this program. \n\n\nSUPPORT \n\n\nThis concert is sponsored by US BANK\nPRE-PAID PARKING \n\n\nAce Parking has provided a DEDICATED PARKING PURCHASE PAGE for this event.

SUMMARY:TROMBONE SHORTY & ORLEANS AVE and ZIGGY MARLEY with Special Guests MAVIS STAPLES and ROBERT RANDOLPH BAND
DESCRIPTION:SUMMARY \n\n\nExperience a night of unforgettable artistry\, energy and music as Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave return to The Rady Shell and reggae royalty Ziggy Marley makes his debut at the waterfront venue. Mavis Staples and the Robert Randolph Band get the evening started… don’t miss a single minute of this soulful\, joyous celebration of music by these legendary artists. \nPlease note: the San Diego Symphony Orchestra does not appear on this program. \n\n\nABOUT TROMBONE SHORTY \n\n\nIt was after midnight when Trombone Shorty stepped offstage at the House of Blues in New Orleans\, but he wasn’t done playing yet. Not by a long shot. \n“I had an idea for a new song right after the show\,” says Shorty\, “so the band and I decided to go straight into the studio and record it that night. We were still sweaty and buzzing from the energy of the gig\, and we definitely carried that vibe into the session with us.” \nTake a listen to Lifted\, Trombone Shorty’s second release for Blue Note Records\, and you’ll hear that same ecstatic energy coursing through the entire collection. Recorded at Shorty’s own Buckjump Studio with producer Chris Seefried (Fitz and the Tantrums\, Andra Day)\, the album finds the Grammy®-nominated NOLA icon and his bandmates tapping into the raw power and exhilarating grooves of their legendary live show\, channeling it all into a series of tight\, explosive performances that blur the lines between funk\, soul\, R&B and psychedelic rock. The writing is bold and self-assured\, standing up to hard times and loss with grit and determination\, and the playing is muscular to match\, mixing pop gleam with hip-hop swagger and second line abandon. Wild as all that may sound\, Lifted is still the work of a master craftsman\, and the album’s nimble arrangements and judicious use of special guests – from Gary Clark Jr. and Lauren Daigle to the rhythm section from Shorty’s high school marching band – ultimately yields a collection that’s as refined as it is rapturous\, one that balances technical virtuosity and emotional release in equal measure as it celebrates music’s primal power to bring us all together. \n\n\nABOUT ZIGGY MARLEY \n\n\nZiggy Marley is an eight-time Grammy® winner\, Emmy winner\, musician\, producer\, activist and humanitarian who has cultivated a legendary career for close to 40 years. The eldest son of Bob and Rita Marley\, Ziggy has hewed his own path as a musical pioneer\, infusing the reggae genre with funk\, blues\, rock and other elements through mindful songcraft. Equal parts master storyteller and motivational guide\, he deftly explores issues from environmental awareness to self-empowerment\, social injustice to political inequity\, while returning again and again to the transformative power of love. And over the past 15 years with his own companies\, Tuff Gong Worldwide and Ishti Music\, Marley has complete control of his masters and publishing; alongside his charity URGE – benefiting the well-being of children in Jamaica\, Africa and North America. For more\, visit ziggymarley.com and all socials at @ziggymarley. \n\n\nABOUT MAVIS STAPLES \n\n\n“I’m the messenger\,” Mavis Staples says on the eve of her 80th birthday. “That’s my job – it has been for my whole life – and I can’t just give up while the struggle’s still alive. We’ve got more work to do\, so I’m going to keep on getting stronger and keep on delivering my message every single day.” \nThat message – a clarion call to love\, to faith\, to justice\, to brotherhood\, to joy – lies at the heart of We Get By\, Staples’ spectacular twelfth studio album and first full-length collaboration with multi-Grammy® Award-winner Ben Harper. Backed by her longtime touring band\, Staples breathes extraordinary life into Harper’s compositions on the record\, delivering roof-raising performances with both a youthful vigor and a commanding maturity. The arrangements here are spare but weighty\, matched by Harper’s suitably lean and thoughtful production\, and Staples seizes the opportunity to showcase her remarkable and continued evolution as an artist\, one still growing and exploring more than half a century into her storied career. \n\n\nABOUT ROBERT RANDOLPH \n\n\nRobert Randolph grew up playing sacred steel music – basically gospel played on pedal steel guitar – in the House of God church in Orange\, New Jersey\, and began taking his joyous\, gospel-infused music out to clubs\, backed by family members who shared not only backgrounds\, but blood. \n“The Family Band” is not just a name meant to evoke connections of togetherness. They are an actual family; the group that supports Randolph is anchored by his cousins\, bassist Danyel Morgan and drummer Marcus Randolph and his sister\, vocalist Lenesha Randolph. \n“That whole thing sort of gets lost\,” says Randolph. “People are always wondering\, ‘are these guys really a family?’ Yes we are! And it’s another thing we wanted to remind everyone with this album\, Brighter Days.’” Given his goals for the album\, it’s fitting that the lone cover song Robert selected for the collection comes from Pops Staples and The Staple Singers\, one of gospel’s greatest musical families\, who seamlessly crossed over to secular R&B success with inspirational songs like “Respect Yourself” and “I’ll Take You There.” Their “Simple Man” is a deep\, contemplative blues\, its pensive nature amplified by Randolph’s signature weeping pedal steel guitar lines. \n\n\nPRE-PAID PARKING \n\n\nAce Parking has provided a DEDICATED PARKING PURCHASE PAGE for this event.

SUMMARY:MARIACHI LOS CAMPEROS with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:ARTISTS \n\n\nMariachi Los Camperos \nEnrico Lopez-Yañez\, conductor\nSan Diego Symphony Orchestra \n\n\nABOUT \n\n\nMariachi Los Camperos – led by Jesus “Chuy” Guzman and considered by many to be among the finest mariachi ensembles in the world – is joined by the San Diego Symphony Orchestra for an evening celebrating the Golden Era of Mariachi music with composers and singers such as Agustin Lara\, Maria Grever\, Javier Solis and Manuel M. Ponce to more contemporary musicians like Juan Gabriel\, Vicente Fernandez and many more. \nLos Angeles–based Mariachi Los Camperos’ abundant accolades\, including multiple Grammy® awards and nominations and highly praised performances on premier concert stages such as Lincoln Center\, the Kennedy Center\, Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Getty Center\, can easily obscure the fact that its leaders come from humble roots\, deep within a mariachi tradition shaped by family and community. The group’s founder\, Nati Cano\, was a third-generation mariachi musician from the small town of Ahuisculco in the west Mexican state of Jalisco. From 1961 to his death in 2014\, he lived his dream\, forging his own group from his artistic vision and determination. Over his musical career\, he challenged the attitudes that\, during his youth in Mexico\, led formally trained musical peers to look down on his beloved rural and working-class music. In the United States\, he worked against class and racial prejudice that relegated Mexicans and their music to second-class status. In the end\, he succeeded both socially and artistically\, as borne out by the group’s and his own many honors and performances in prestigious venues across the United States and Mexico. \nIn the words of Jesús “Chuy” Guzmán\, his disciple and successor as Camperos leader\, “He wanted to have a mariachi that would have dignity\, that would have heart\, that would have soul\, and he made Los Camperos.” \nToday\, Chuy Guzmán leads the Camperos legacy\, providing the vision for its sound and repertoire. He continues Cano’s legacy of teaching the tradition throughout the United States and parts of Latin America. Chuy Guzmán is living his dream\, and he is dreaming ever bigger. Looking back on his career\, he says\, “I’m not going to tell you that the work was easy\, but… I feel good about what has happened in my life\, in my path as a musician.” Looking ahead\, he adds\, “There’s still a lot to do… My dream will come to an end when I am gone.” \n\n\nSUPPORT \n\n\nThis concert is sponsored by UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO\nPRE-PAID PARKING \n\n\nAce Parking has provided a DEDICATED PARKING PURCHASE PAGE for this event.

SUMMARY:GUSTER with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:ARTISTS \n\n\nGuster \nEnrico Lopez-Yañez\, conductor\nSan Diego Symphony Orchestra \n\n\nABOUT \n\n\nThe San Diego Symphony Orchestra joins the Boston-bred band. Winsome melodies\, soaring hooks\, and tight\, immaculate songcraft are brought to The Rady Shell with a career-spanning set. \n“A versatile and literate East Coast alt-rock institution\, Guster emerged in the mid-’90s with a quirky amalgam of acoustic folk and pop before adopting a more robust sound that blended stadium-ready Brit-pop grandeur with proletariat American trad-rock. Known for their earworm hooks\, soaring choruses\, deft guitar noodling\, and early on\, their distinctive hand-drumming\, the band broke big in 1999 with the release of their third studio effort\, Lost and Gone Forever\, which included the breezy hit single “Fa Fa.” Subsequent LPs like Ganging Up on the Sun (2006)\, Easy Wonderful (2010) and Look Alive (2019) found similar success\, yielding numerous charting singles that found their way into popular television shows and films.” – Andrew Leahey\, AllMusic \n\n\nPRE-PAID PARKING \n\n\nAce Parking has provided a DEDICATED PARKING PURCHASE PAGE for this event.

Naming themselves after a local street in Los Angeles\, Cypress Hill burst on the scene in 1991 with the release of their self-titled debut album. The singles “How I Could Just Kill a Man” and “The Phuncky Feel One” became underground hits\, and the group’s public pro-marijuana stance earned them many fans among the alternative rock community. Cypress Hill followed their debut with Black Sunday in the summer of 1993\, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top 200\, garnered three GRAMMY® Award nominations\, and went triple platinum in the U.S. As a result\, Cypress Hill became the first rap group to have two albums in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 charts at the same time and are the first Latino-American hip-hop group to achieve platinum and multi-platinum success. \nSince the release of Black Sunday\, Cypress Hill have put out seven more albums including 2018’s critically acclaimed\, Elephants on Acid. Cypress Hill made history once again in 2019 when the group was honored with their very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2021\, Cypress Hill released “Champion Sound.” Produced by Black Milk\, the single appears on the soundtrack of R.B.I Baseball 21 and is also the featured song for the band’s partnership with Montejo Cerveza. 2021 also saw Cypress Hill celebrate the 30th anniversary of their self-titled debut this year with a SONY reissue on vinyl\, 7-inch box set\, a reissue across all DSP’s that includes eight unreleased tracks\, as well as a graphic novel and their very own STANCE sock. Cypress Hill continue to be busier than ever in 2022. The band released a new album last spring (Back in Black) and have already dropped three singles\, “Champion Sound\,” “Open Ya Mind” and “Bye Bye.” Their Cypress Hill: Insane in the Brain documentary\, which is part of Mass Appeal’s “Hip Hop 50” franchise in partnership with Showtime\, was also released last year. \n\n\nSUPPORT \n\n\nThis concert is sponsored by CUTWATER\nPRE-PAID PARKING \n\n\nAce Parking has provided a DEDICATED PARKING PURCHASE PAGE for this event.

SUMMARY:THE JACKSONS and VILLAGE PEOPLE
DESCRIPTION:SUMMARY \n\n\nTwo of the most legendary groups in music history take the stage for one memorable evening at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park. You’ll hear the soulful hits of The Jacksons like “I Want You Back\,” “ABC\,” “I’ll Be There\,” “Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)”\, “Can You Feel It” and “Blame It On The Boogie\,” and iconic songs of Village People – including “Y.M.C.A.\,” “Macho Man\,” “In The Navy”– and many more! \nNote: The San Diego Symphony Orchestra does not appear on this program. \n\n\nABOUT THE JACKSONS \n\n\nJackie\, Tito\, Jermaine\, Marlon and Michael\, five brothers from Gary\, Indiana\, known originally as The Jackson 5 and later The Jacksons\, rose to fame for their combination of extraordinary musical talent and spectacular choreography. They soon earned the status of pop royalty in the music world\, providing the launching pad for what would become Michael Jackson’s legendary solo career. \nFirst signed to Steeltown Records in 1967\, the group soon found international success at Motown with the songs: “I Want You Back”\, “ABC”\, “The Love You Save” and “I’ll Be There”\, making history in 1970 as the first recording act whose first four singles reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. They ultimately scored 17 top forty singles on the Hot 100\, following with hits such as “Never Can Say Goodbye” and “Dancing Machine.” To date\, their Motown recordings alone have sold in excess of 200 million records. \nThe group can be said to find many of its music inspirations in legends like The Temptations\, The Supremes\, James Brown and Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers and\, in turn\, came to eventually serve as the inspiration for several generations of boy bands\, including Backstreet Boys\, New Edition\, N*SYNC\, New Kids on the Block\, and of more recent vintage\, the Jonas Brothers\, One Direction\, and many more. \nIn 1980\, The Jacksons were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They were inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999 as The Jackson 5. Listed among The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s “500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll” are two of the group’s songs “I Want You Back” and “ABC.” At the annual BMI Urban Awards on September 8\, 2008\, The Jacksons were honored as BMI Icons. In 2016\, “ABC” joined “I Want You Back” as the group’s second recording to be inducted into the Recording Academy’s Grammy® Hall of Fame. \n\n\nABOUT VILLAGE PEOPLE \n\n\nVillage People is one of the most iconic music groups in the world. Their music is part of the international songbook and featured in dozens of major motion pictures\, on Broadway\, and in commercials. Of course\, “Y.M.C.A” (along with its namesake dance) is played at almost every party\, wedding\, bar mitzvah and sporting event in the world. They’ve sold over 100 million records worldwide. \nThe debut album\, released in 1977\, featured the hit singles “San Francisco (You’ve Got Me)” and “In Hollywood (Everybody is a Star).” At that time however\, the group was simply Victor Willis with use of session background singers. Auditions were held and a group of characters were assembled around Willis for a 1977 television appearance on American Bandstand. \nSoon Village People was a real group (not just Victor Willis). Live musicians were added for tour purposes. The group was soon an international phenomenon. A second album\, Macho Man\, was quickly released\, followed by a third album titled Cruisin’ which featured the blockbuster hit “Y.M.C.A.” Next up was the Go West\, the fourth album featuring the hit “In the Navy.” This was followed by the group’s sixth album in 1979\, titled Live & Sleazy\, which featured Willis performing all the hits\, live from The Greek Theatre. \nVillage People is now more popular than ever. The group returned to the charts in 2019 and 2020 with “Happiest Time of the Year\,’ and “If You Believe\,” both written by Willis and quickly becoming hits by breaking into Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart top 20. \nRecent television appearances include Fox New Year’s Eve in Times Square and Good Morning America. The group continues to perform to sold out audiences worldwide. \n\n\nPRE-PAID PARKING \n\n\nAce Parking has provided a DEDICATED PARKING PURCHASE PAGE for this event.
